Without their top two goaltenders on Friday night in the first round of their Holiday Tournament, the Batavia Ice Devils turned to novice Jake Cryer between the pipes. Despite a great effort from Cryer, the contest vs Geneseo didn’t turn out exactly how Batavia hoped – as they fell 7-0 to the Lakers.
Cryer had no previous goaltending experience at the varsity level, but knowing he had played the position sparingly in the past, the Devils coaching staff decided to give him a shot – despite considering playing 6 skaters and no goaltender.
Even with the loss it seems as if Batavia believes that, if they are able to get their two goalies back, they’ll be able to make a run late in the year.
